52 years old and still in use - but now it is time to give a portal drilling machine from 1968 a new, second life. A very special retrofit story from Sinsheim.
In 1968 Fritz Werner AG built a portal drilling machine for woodworking. After 52 years this machine is outdated and worn out, but still in use and is now undergoing a general overhaul. Since we have been servicing this type of machine for years, the request for this machine came to Sinsheim.
As the service successor of Fritz Werner AG, Werkzeugmaschinenbau Sinsheim GmbH has the complete machine documentation at its disposal. After careful consideration we decided to offer the project. We prepared a detailed description of the rebuild, rolled through parts lists and drawings. Finally, the calculation was the basis for the final offer. After several corona-heavy appointments for visits, final negotiations were held in mid-May, for the first time via Web-EX. The entire team was delighted with this special order.
On 13 July 2020 our WMS staff finally dismantled the machine and delivered it to Sinsheim on 24 July 2020. Since then, we have been busy dismantling and cleaning all assemblies. The machine will be completely renewed mechanically, hydraulically as well as electrically, including the belt feed via driven rollers. On the control side, we are installing a Siemens 840D Solution Line. Our newly developed WMS retrofit software (WRS for short) in modular structure will be used. In the future, we will use structured software for electrical engineering in order to enable our service technicians to provide trouble-free machine service in the long term.
The overhaul has got off to a very good start and we have so far remained strictly on schedule. Especially since we are handling this complex business in parallel with other projects, we will always keep an eye on the schedule, even though the final delivery date will not be until November 2021.
Of course, we will proudly present the result at the end of the project at DVS NOW.
