Supporting gender equality – there is still plenty of work to do!

Every year, the International Women's Day reminds us in a special way that there is still a lot of work ahead of us when it comes to gender equality. This is also an important topic in the DVS Group.

Wir danken allen Kollegeninnen der DVS Technology Group

We should use this global awareness day not only to show special appreciation for our female colleagues, which they more than deserve. But as a company, we are committed to taking the necessary steps to combat inequality: Diversity and equality are two important cornerstones of the corporate mission statement of the DVS Technology Group. In order to develop useful ideas on how to better implement this claim in practice, we had our own POD, which is our cross-company creative and innovation laboratory to address important questions and topics concerning everyday professional life.

Measures by management to combat discrimination against women

What can companies do in-house to eliminate bias and stereotypes against women? Here are a few ideas:

  • Anonymized applications: If the gender, age, or origin of the applicant are anonymized, various types of discrimination are already eliminated before the person is met for the first time.
  • Training of personnel: Training opportunities on subconscious prejudices can reduce potential concerns at the workplace.
  • Promoting women to management: Gender-specific targets for all business divisions and positions ensure a balanced representation of men and women in different divisions and at different levels.
  • Flexible working time models: Allowing mothers and fathers to allocate their own working hours benefits everyone who looks after their children or parents. This includes shifting your company's thinking towards work performance. The assessment of the employees at the company could be based more on performance and achievements rather than time spent at the workplace.

Gender pay gap in Germany

We make strides as a society, but as a society we are nowhere near where we want to be: Studies are still showing that women are structurally and financially disadvantaged in the workplace. Financial disadvantage is also a major issue in Germany, especially in the western federal states.

Gender pay gap ist in Westdeutschland weit höher als in Ostdeutschland
The gender pay gap is much larger in West Germany than in East Germany

So there is still a lot to do for us as a society. As a group of companies, we take the issue extremely seriously and actively pursue ideas and concepts on how we can overcome potential obstacles internally.
