Joachim Ernst, Managing Director of DVS Service in Sinsheim and an expert in overhauls and repairs within the DVS Group, shares his insights, guiding principles and visions for the future as part of our "A word" series.

 

DVS Service in the year 2024

 

DVS Service has developed significantly in recent years. While we used to concentrate on retrofitting and repairing machines and components outside of our own brands at Werkzeugmaschinenbau Sinsheim (WMS), we now focus exclusively on products and components from the DVS Group. This strategic change has led to us proudly bearing the name DVS Service since 2023.

The switch to a new building symbolized not only a spatial but also a conceptual new beginning. The focus of the planning was on increasing efficiency, which enabled us to achieve considerable energy savings thanks to the energy-optimized new building. At the same time, we overhauled our entire repair process in order to be able to carry out all necessary repair work efficiently in-house. Our repair department is now characterized by a high repair speed and we plan to increase our efficiency by further increasing our stock levels.

The DVS Digital business unit has also been an integral part of our company since 2024. DVS Digital is dedicated to the development of digital products and services for the entire DVS TECHNOLOGY GROUP, significantly expanding our range of services and strengthening our position in the market.‌

 

DVS Service and DVS Digital

 

DVS Service and DVS Digital form a synergetic combination that enables us to respond proactively to the advancing digitalization in the industry. This development is unstoppable and does not stop at the service sector. By integrating DVS Digital into our portfolio, we are able to develop innovative digital products and services that both meet the requirements of the modern manufacturing industry and offer our customers added value.

The combination of these areas enables us to optimize our processes and make them more efficient. DVS Digital helps us not only to digitize and accelerate our internal processes, but also to offer our customers digital solutions that increase their productivity and efficiency. The collaboration between DVS Service and DVS Digital promises a seamless integration of traditional services with digital innovations, giving us a decisive competitive advantage and enabling us to better meet the needs of our customers.‌

Shortage of skilled workers

 

As part of the team at DVS Service, we clearly feel the shortage of skilled workers that is affecting our industry far and wide. We are facing particular challenges in the search for young, motivated service technicians in the field of electrical engineering. Recruiting suitable personnel is demanding, but I am confident that we will also find suitable solutions to this challenge.

In order to attract potential employees and strengthen our team in the long term, we attach great importance to a positive and supportive working environment. We not only offer our employees professional benefits such as a job bike to promote healthy and environmentally friendly mobility, but also opportunities for joint activities that strengthen team spirit.

A particular highlight is cooking together, which takes place regularly and gives us all the opportunity to get to know each other better and exchange ideas outside of work. These moments of togetherness contribute significantly to a family-like working atmosphere in which each individual feels valued and integrated. We also plan activities together in our free time, such as joint ski trips. These activities really strengthen our team spirit and I wouldn't want to do without them.

I am convinced that these measures and the corporate culture practiced at DVS Service can effectively tackle the shortage of skilled workers. We do everything we can to attract talented and committed service technicians and offer them jobs in an environment in which they can develop professionally and personally.‌

The future of service

 

The future of DVS Service is extremely positive. Thanks to our strong market positioning, an excellent network within and outside the DVS Group, as well as highly motivated and qualified employees, we are in an excellent position. The integration of digital products and services through our DVS Digital business unit opens up additional opportunities to expand our offerings and optimize processes. We aim to consolidate our market position and proactively respond to the needs of our customers, supported by a team that is characterized by commitment and a spirit of innovation.
